I’m a functional planner. I love adding stickers and washi and using different color pens and pencils, but at the end of the day I rely on my planner to keep my life straight. I don’t worry about fancy lettering, or matchy-matchy stickers. I want to smile when I open my planner, not see all the things that are not lined up right, or the colors are not quite the same, or what have you. I’m also not one for the cutesy phrases – give me profanity or give me nothing.
This is my planner layout before the writing. Here I’m using the InkJoy ball point pens to draw the outlines from a Reflections stencil. I color them in with colored pencils, to make it more interesting.

The black boxes on the right are for meal planning dinners. And here is what my planner looks like now that I’ve spent some time filling it in. I add to it throughout the week because I can’t be sure what’s going to change. I like leaving room for things to change. I use both pencil and pen to write in my tasks, depending on my mood. Even writing in pencil I rarely erase anything.
I obviously prefer a Monday start – I’ve set my Google Calendar to a Monday start as well. What’s your preference – Monday, Sunday, or other?
